The “Semovente” 75/18 M40, developed by Fiat Ansaldo, was used by the Regio Esercito in North Africa from the end of 1941 and remained in service until the end of the Second World War.
Although it was developed on the basis of the M13/40 tank, it was the only Italian armored vehicle produced in large numbers and posed a serious threat to Allied tanks.
Its 75mm gun had good firepower and was effective against even the most modern and heaviest armored enemy tanks such as the Sherman.
The good and effective gun could not compensate for several weaknesses such as light armor and an unreliable and weak engine, which came directly from the M13/40 tank.
