The Tiger was capable of knocking out enemy tanks before they could even think about returning fire.
Unfortunately for the Wehrmacht, the Tiger's enormous potential was never fully realised as it was over-engineered, extremely complex and expensive to produce, meaning there were never enough Tigers on the battlefield at any one time.
Only 1347 Tiger 1s were produced between 1942 and 1944, and although it was undoubtedly one of the best tanks produced at the time, it could not stop the ever-increasing numbers of Allied tanks.
This numerical discrepancy is illustrated by the fact that American factories were able to produce over 49,000 Shermans during WWII.
