The M163 was developed around a 20mm “Vulcan” cannon.
Rotating barrels (with rapid fire power of 6000 rounds per minute) were developed for anti-aircraft use.
The entire system is based on a simple, open turret with ammunition stored inside the vehicle. The M163 is used not only for anti-aircraft defense, but also as an infantry support vehicle due to its enormous firepower.
