From 1936 onwards, the BR 41 “standard locomotive” was developed for fast freight trains as part of the Deutsche Reichsbahnen (DR) construction program.
During the testing phase, the BR 41 was nicknamed the “Ochsenlok” because it was used to transport fast cattle trains.
A total of 366 BR 41 locomotives were then built, distributed among almost all German locomotive builders.
The BR 41 was designed as a so-called multi-purpose locomotive.
In addition to its intended purpose - transporting express freight trains - its top speed of 90 km/h enabled it to be used for fast and even express passenger trains.
