The M4 Sherman medium tank was the most widely used armored vehicle in World War II.
The M4 formed the backbone of the American armored force and was produced in numerous versions and variants. The first model to be mass-produced was the Sherman M4A1, which was characterized by its rounded hull and cast turret.
Early Shermans were equipped with a 75 mm cannon, which was later replaced by a 76 mm high-velocity cannon.
