Nanotyrannus lived during the late Cretaceous period, during the reign of T-Rex. There’s a possibility that Nanotyrannus may have been a juvenile T-Rex, with known specimens ranging in size from 17 feet to 20 feet long.
The type specimen, which consisted of a single complete skull, was discovered in 1942 by David Dunkle, and was formally described by Charles W. Gilmore.
The recent discovery of the Nanotyrannus nicknamed “Jane”, and the subsequent discovery of the Nanotyrannus nicknamed “Bloody Mary”, still has the scientific community divided as to whether this is a juvenile T-Rex, or a whole new species all together.
Regardless of it’s true identity, it would definitely not be something one would want to encounter in the wild today....
