Woolly Rhinoceros ( Coelodonta antiquitatis ). The Woolly Rhinoceros lived throughout northern Europe and Asia and was quite common up until the age of the last ice age, with the youngest known specimen being as recent as 8,000 years old.
It is believed and widely accepted that their demise was brought about a combination of hunting by early humans and climate change.
Images of this animal frequent paleolithic dwellings in the form of cave paintings. A DNA study of mummified Woolly Rhino remains indicates that it’s closest living descendant is the Sumatran Rhinoceros.
