Einheits-PKW were delivered to the Wehrmacht between 1936 and 1943 in the three versions of light unit car, medium unit car and heavy unit car (light, medium and heavy passenger cars). These vehicles were intended to replace the civilian vehicles previously procured by the Reichswehr with off-road vehicles. the car 4 is a light version and was officially presented at the end of February 1938
The car is simple and technologically advanced in production, an open three- or four-door all-metal body (in the Kfz.2 and Kfz.4 versions there was no right rear door, instead of which a fuel canister was installed on the outside of the body) with a folding fabric top and removable celluloid windows on the upper partial doors.
Kfz. 4 had a twin MG 34 gun carriage and ammo boxes over the rear fenders instead of the rear seats.
