Operation Jubilee or "The Dieppe Raid" on August 19, 1942 was an Allied amphibious landing on the German-occupied port of Dieppe in northern France. Over 6,050 soldiers, mostly Canadians - supported by an armored regiment - were brought ashore by a naval force.
After less than six hours, increasing losses forced a retreat. The operation turned into a fiasco.
On the German side, Navy troops and sailors were also used as combat troops.
