HMS Naiad belonged to the Dido class built by the Royal Navy between 1939 and 1942. When the ship was used in World War II, it initially served the British fleet to protect merchant ships. November 1940 took part in the search for German battleships. In December and January of the following year she escorted convoys to Sierra Leone, Freetown. In May 1941, HMS Naiad took part in Action Malta in the Mediterranean.

On March 11, 1942, HMS Naiad was sunk by the German submarine U-565 in a torpedo attack. 77 people were killed.
