VW Golf GTI First Series 1976 / 78

The Volkswagen Golf is an iconic vehicle from the Wolfsburg-based automobile manufacturer.
It was first introduced in the spring of 1974 and immediately became a hugely successful product.
The first series (1974-1983) offered a very receptive consumer market of the time technical excellence, including a water-cooled front engine, front-wheel drive, a solid and robust body with a functional but equally attractive design.
However, the good price-performance ratio was the real competitive advantage that made the Golf so successful.
At the 1975 Frankfurt Motor Show, the sporty Golf GTI version was presented, which contained the high-performance engine with 110 hp and 1600 cc displacement.
Series production of the Golf GTI began the following year and achieved considerable sales success in many European and non-European countries in just two months.
