The Sd.Kfz. 9 was the largest and heaviest half-track vehicle of the Wehrmacht. Mainly designed as an artillery tractor with benches and space for standby ammunition and recovery tractor with a large loading area, or it received an armored cabin and a permanently installed 8.8 cm Flak 37. Only about 14 vehicles of this anti-aircraft variant were produced. FAMOs equipped with a 6 t crane were introduced into the troops from 1941. Mainly used in the tank divisions, workshop trains, as well as in the artillery and anti-aircraft regiments, with its lifting capacity of six tons it could pull Panzer IV turrets as well as remove complete weapon systems, e.g. the Wespe and Hummel self-propelled guns.
