The M1 Abrams is an American third-generation main battle tank.
It was named after General Creighton Abrams.
Since it entered service in the early 1980s, it has been repeatedly modernised and adapted to the requirements of modern warfare.
In addition to the 120mm smoothbore gun, it has an excellent fire control system, with laser rangefinder and an impressive gas turbine engine.
The M1A2 has improved armour over its predecessors as well as the latest electronics: Intervehicular Information System (IVIS), Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) and more.
It was first deployed in 1992 and took part in the Iraq War from 2003 onwards
