The M48 Chaparral Intercept-Aerial Guided Missile System consists of the M54 launch station on the M730 launch vehicle.
This is based on the M113 armored personnel carrier.
The launcher is capable of a full 360 degree rotation and can be aimed at +90/-9 degrees.
Four Chaparral (modified Sidewinder) rockets were carried on the launch rails, with eight spare rockets with their fins and wings removed stored under the launcher.
The gunner sits on the carriage between the pairs of missiles and aims with a simple reflex sight.
An auxiliary power unit provides the energy required to operate the weapon system, and a cryonic air cooler provides the rocket seekers with the necessary cooling.
