The Light Tank, M24 (also known as the M24 Chaffee) was an American-made light tank that saw action towards the end of World War II.
In 1972 the Norwegian Army decided to keep 54 of its 123 M24s as reconnaissance vehicles.
These have been fundamentally rebuilt. The same diesel engine was installed as in the M113, paired with an Allison MT-653 gearbox.
The M6 L/39 75mm gun was replaced by the French D-925 low-pressure 90mm gun with a coaxial (12.7mm) heavy M2 machine gun.
A new ammunition mount was installed in place of the bow gunner.
A new fire control system was installed along with a Simrad LV3 laser rangefinder.
The NM-116s were decommissioned in 1993.
