The "Semovente" 75/18 was developed on the back of the "M" series armored hull and soon became the most feared Italian armored vehicle.
In addition to its primary role as an infantry support vehicle, the casemate-installed 75mm howitzer proved a highly effective anti-tank weapon, capable of successfully combating even the most powerful and heavily armored British and American tanks.
In addition to its impressive firepower, far superior to that of the M-13 and M-14 tanks, the "Semovente" was valued for its low silhouette, which made it difficult to spot. Also appreciated for its overall on-road and off-road capabilities.
It was used by the Regio Esercito in Africa and also during Allied operations in Italy.
After Italy changed sides, it was used by some anti-tank units of the German Wehrmacht.
