The D version was the first variant of the Panther in World War II.
It offered a complete performance package with the firepower of the impressive 7.5cm L/70 cannon, excellent protection thanks to its sloping armor and maneuverability thanks to a 700 HP petrol engine.
About 840 Ausf.Ds were produced between January and September 1943, and it was first used in the Battle of Kursk in July of that year.
Although not everything went smoothly, the Panther was able to take out about 140 Soviet tanks from a distance of 1,500 to 2,000 meters, all while being impeccably protected by its sloping armor.
Version D was followed by the improved versions A and G and revolutionized German tank design.
He remained at the front until the end of hostilities.
