At the beginning of September 1943, a concept for the Panzer IV was worked out.
A modernised Panzer IV chassis was to be equipped with the 7.5cm KwK 42 from the Panther in a narrow turret (Schmalturm).
The Panzer IV with Schmalturm would have been the most powerful variant of the Panzer IV, but at the time of the development of the turret it was already in the process of being decommissioned.
