In 1968, the British Ministry of Defence had 72 long-wheelbase Land Rovers Series 2A converted to SAS specifications by Marshalls of Cambridge.
Among other things, the following were fitted
- four fuel tanks of 25 gallons each
- a reinforced chassis
- a reinforced suspension
- sand tyres
- differential protection front and rear
- both doors and the windscreen were removed
- as well as the roof
- A variety of weapons and accessories have been added
