At the request of the Japanese army, the world's first light 4x4 vehicles were developed and called "Kurogane". From December 1937 a new type was produced after various improvements.
It offered space for three passengers and had an air-cooled V-two-cylinder engine with 1,400 cm³ and 33 hp.
It had independent front suspension, leaf-sprung rear suspension and large tires.
From 1930 to 1939 around 4,800 vehicles of various types were manufactured.
The light 4x4 Kurogane was used for reconnaissance and communications in China, Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
