Bastogne Siege 80 Years - BATTLE SET

On December 16, 1944, the German army launched a major offensive, codenamed "Watch on the Rhine," through the densely forested area of ​​the Ardennes in Belgium. The city of Bastogne, a neuralgic junction for road communications and an important logistical center, was one of the main targets of the strategic plan. The Belgian city and its surrounding areas were encircled by the German forces, isolating a large number of American troops within the pocket. They offered stubborn resistance to the enemy's repeated attacks for several days in adverse weather and environmental conditions. The resistance of the 101st U.S. Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" was legendary. On December 26, the counteroffensive by several armored divisions of the Third Army under the command of General George Smith Patton ended the siege.
