It was very well armoured. The most common variant used was the Mk.IV.
The Mk.IV was fitted with better armament than the original 6-pounder gun. This was achieved by fitting the gun mantlet and 75mm gun (from Sherman which could not be repaired) into the cast turret of the Churchill.
The first conversions of the NA 75 were carried out in North Africa, where many Shermans had been put out of action by mines. The field conversion required cutting away the front of the original turret to fit the new gun mantlet.
From March to June 1944, around 200 NA 75 tanks were converted and used in North Africa and Italy.
