In the final phase of the Second World War, the Wehrmacht attempted to improve the firepower of the IV armoured fighting vehicle.
The Panzer IV/70 (A) was developed from 1944 onwards.
In order to shorten the development time as much as possible, the vehicle was based on the hull of the Panzerpanzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. J, which was in production at the time.
This was equipped with a casemate superstructure and the 7.5 cm L/70 long barrel gun.
The IV / 70 (A) armoured car was equipped with side skirts made of wire mesh panels called "Thoma Schürzen".
A total of around 280 units were produced and used on both the Eastern and Western fronts.
